Ranking Every Mountain Dew Flavor I've Had So Far (Part One)
So many flavors... so many questions.
I love Mountain Dew, alright? It’s a drink I have been fascinated by for many years. A drink that I try my best to try and find the newest flavors. Let’s not waste any time. Starting with…
Original Mountain Dew
The classic, crisp taste of citrus, nacho cheese Doritos, and Halo. It’s one you can’t really go wrong with, however it’s a million times better cold and in a can than it ever will be in a bottle, liter or not. Taste is good, but I’ve grown numb to it because of how often I’d drink it.
Score: 8/10
Diet Mountain Dew
Another one I’ve grown numb to. It’s decent, arguably sorta better than original, but a flavor I would never try willingly.
Score: 5/10
Mountain Dew Code Red
Released in stores in March 2001, Mountain Dew Code Red is straight up just cherry candy as a liquid. Amongst the few I would consider “Nectar of the Gods” because it’s amongst the greatest flavors PepsiCo has ever given us.
Score: 9/10
Mountain Dew Voltage
A blast of blue raspberry, this is one of my personal favorites. The blue is pretty, the old black label was really cool. This one to me has more of a tartness to it than Code Red and I really like that a lot. This drink was released in the summer of 2008 after winning DEWmocracy ‘08, alongside Supernova and Revolution.
Score: 10/10
Mountain Dew White Out
Mountain Dew White Out was introduced after being one of the finalists in the second DEWmocracy in 2009, along with Typhoon and Distortion. This drink is one I haven’t had in many years, due to it being pulled from shelves in 2019 for most places that aren’t in the midwest. I remember it being a smooth citrus flavor with the Mountain Dew Wiki saying it’s “yuzu lemongrass.”
Whatever it is, it’s quite good. I remember liking it a lot!
Score: 8/10
Mountain Dew Livewire
Starting in the summer of 2003, LiveWire was a limited time release. this drink was incredibly successful. They then released in 2004 for a limited time, and then again in 2005. However, it’s stuck in the same boat as White Out, and is a lot harder to find nowadays. Luckily, I found it at a QuikTrip before it ended up becoming rare, and I got to say, it’s not a favorite, but it wasn’t bad at all. I’m not really a fan of orange drinks.
Score: 6/10
Mountain Dew Baja Blast
The Taco Bell exclusive, first released in 2004 to major success, is considered one of the best Dew flavors out there. It’s also considered the first time a beverage company had an exclusive drink with a fast-food chain. Baja Blast was released in bottles in 2014, and has many different variants like Diet, Zero Sugar, Freeze, etc.
I too, much like every other human I’ve ever met, agree that this is one of the greatest drinks out there. The tropical flavor is only truly appreciated with a Soft Shell Taco or a Chalupa.
Score: 10/10
Mountain Dew Pitch Black
Another drink that saw a limited release in 2004, it was originally for the Halloween season in October. Pitch Black saw re-releases in 2005, 2011, and once caught itself in the crosshairs in DEWcision in 2016 along with Baja Blast. It was promoted on Kasey Kahne’s #5 (as Baja Blast was on Chase Elliott’s #24, and DEWcision was promoted on Dale Jr’s #88) at Richmond in 2016. Pitch Black barely won the vote. It became permanent but unfortunately went the way of LiveWire and White Out.
I personally don’t know how Pitch Black won over Baja Blast, as it’s honestly pretty boring. It’s good but it’s certainly not gonna win over Baja Blast for me.
Score: 7/10
Mountain Dew Southern Shock
Released in 2020, this is the exclusive BoJangles flavor. Pairs well with a Cajun Chicken Biscuit.
Really good tropical punch flavor! It’s pretty good. Definitely one I wish was available in bottles.
Score: 8/10
Mountain Dew Sangrita Blast
Sangrita Blast was introduced alongside Baja Blast in 2013, as a Taco Bell exclusive before being kicked out and replaced by Spiked Lemonade in 2017. This was also made into bottles and cans in 2015 but was again given the boot.
Assuming you’ve noticed my choice of words here, I do not like Sangrita Blast. It 100 percent ranks very low on my list of flavors and it’s one I hope never comes back.
Score: 4/10
Mountain Dew Spark
A limited release in 2020, this pink lemonade/raspberry godsent was only available in Speedway gas stations. It was discontinued in October of that year, but was brought back in 2021, again exclusive to Speedway. It wasn’t until 2022 that it became a widely available flavor.
Another banger from PepsiCo. A very tart, and very refreshing flavor. It’s more so a carbonated pink lemonade but you can still tell there’s a hint of Dew.
Score: 9/10
Mountain Dew Major Melon
Released in 2021, this watermelon flavor Dew has “Code Red Syndrome” in that it’s just liquid candy. Specifically, a watermelon Jolly Rancher. This drink doesn’t really have any special history to it, unfortunately. It’s Super Bowl ad did have John Cena drinking it though.
This is another really good flavor, probably Mountain Dew’s top 5 flavors. Personally, I’m a big fan of watermelon flavored things, so naturally this is really good.
Score: 10/10
That’ll do it for now! This is only the first part of my list of Mountain Dew flavors. Come back soon for the next part!
